Add a comment below about what most impressed you.
I was very impressed with Beeching's list of what it takes to be successful in the music field: talent, winning attitude, sales skills, support system, and strategy. However, I would consider adding two more things to the list: administrative skills and communication skills. I believe that musicians have to be well rounded individuals to be able to succeed. Beeching specially impressed me because although I was aware of most of the things, being able to write them down is quite challenging.
ReplyDeleteI was not very impressed with any of the websites. Out of curiosity I checked Yo-Yo Ma's website and it really impressed me!
http://www.yo-yoma.com/
It is very well organized and it has all the pertinent information and it is accessible for the general public. I understand it probably costs more to create a website like this and that Yo-Yo Ma is able to afford it, but I still think it is a great example.
The ICE website caught my attention. Their photos were incredibly interesting. The very first one I saw when I got to the website was a group of people lifting up a tuba. It immediately evoked a question: what are they doing? It was a tuba in a context I hadn't seen before. Haimowitz and and Dinnerstein both had galleries, but to be honest, it is not difficult to higher a professional photographer to make you look attractive and artsy. That should be a minimum. The ICE website had many more interesting photos than the first one to draw me in, especially on the events page.
ReplyDeleteOne element that a few of the websites including, Wordless Music and the Fifth House Ensemble, used was putting upcoming events, concerts and clips as the highlight of their homepage. This method caught my eye to the display of pictures from the second I got on the site and allows the viewer to easily scroll through new events and series in the hopes that they might attend one of these venues. Another great feature used by Matt Haimovitz and Simone Dinnerstein for their websites was immediate sound of music or start of the performance video when you enter their homepage. This allows the viewer to browse the site while already hearing the performer. Both elements used act as visual or audible aids allowing their sites to be more accessible and hopefully get a greater audience.
